Oladipo, Hardaway nominated for dunk of the year

ESPN2 is running a contest on Facebook for the 2012 Dunk of the Year (you must like the page to vote), and Indiana’s Victor Oladipo and Michigan’s Tim Hardaway Jr. are both nominees. Oladipo is in the mix for his one-handed throwdown in Indiana’s upset of No. 1 Kentucky, while Hardaway is in there for his driving, one-handed flush at Indiana. Both dunks were terrific. Go to the page and cast your vote for the Big Ten. According to the page, the Dunk of the Year will be featured March 26 during Dunks of the Year on ESPN2.

Vote: Thompson's best in-bound alley-oop

Most teams go an entire season, if not longer, without even attempting an alley-oop on an inbound pass. Then again, most teams don’t have an athlete quite like Ohio State’s Sam Thompson. Only a freshman, Thompson was on the receiving end of his second such play in Big Ten action alone Wednesday night. Which inbound alley-oop was better, though: Tonight’s or the one at Indiana on New Year’s Eve? Watch both incredible plays and vote on the best one in this post.

Big Ten well represented in Super Bowl XLVI

As many as 20 Big Ten products will participate in Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5, headlined by New England QB Tom Brady (Michigan), a three-time Super Bowl winner and two-time Super Bowl MVP. Brady is the biggest name, by far, but it’s the New York Giants who have the most Big Ten players (14 players to six). See all the Big Ten products in the Super Bowl in this post.

Big Ten Hoops Power Rankings

It’s time to release my latest Big Ten men’s hoops power rankings. The rankings are not meant to mimic the Big Ten standings. What fun would that be? They aren’t scientific, either. They’re simply my thoughts on where each Big Ten team stands right now and who would win on a neutral court. Agree? Disagree? Tweet @BTNBrentYarina or leave your comments below. Penn State unveils new gray alternate uniform

The Penn State men’s basketball team broke out a new alternate uniform Thursday night against Illinois. Based on the result, a 54-52 victory over surging Illinois, the Nittany Lions do well in gray. As for the look, gray is a c0lor a ton of teams are incorporating in their rotation — Ohio State and Purdue are a couple examples in the Big Ten. While it’s not a school color for Penn State, we’ve seen gray look a lot worse. View a photo gallery of the uniforms, courtesy of GoPSUSports.com.
