SportingNews: Meyer, Dantonio Big Ten's best decided to rank the Big Ten’s football coaches, and there’s no surprise at the top of the list. Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, he of two national titles at Florida, is No. 1, and Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio, fresh off a Big Ten title and Rose Bowl Game win, is No. 2. [ MORE: Big Ten coach rankings ] After the top two, though, the site’s ranking is certain to elicit its share of debate. Why is turf being removed at TCF Bank Stadium?

TCF Bank Stadium opened in 2009 and is, far and away, the Big Ten’s newest football stadium. That doesn’t mean it can’t undergo some updates. Thanks to the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, who will share the stadium for the next two seasons while its new $1 billion home is under construction, the turf is being torn up make way for a hydronic heated field. Twitter: Jim Tressel tweets Tupac quote

When one thinks Jim Tressel, he or she inevitably thinks national championship, sweater vests and khakis, among other things. The former Ohio State football coach gave us another thing to associate him with Tuesday: Tupac. Yes. Tressel, now the vice president at Akron, tweeted a Tupac quote. For every dark night, there's a brighter day -Tupac Shakur #QuietTime — Jim Tressel (@JimTressel5) April 15, 2014 With the #QuietTime hashtag, one can only assume Tressel is referring to the quiet recruiting period, a time when recruits can’t have any contact with coaches, which starts Tuesday. Deep, right? h/t: ftw —

NCAA Football: Rutgers at Central Florida

Video: Rutgers draws up trick play for young fans

Big Ten football fans will love what Kyle Flood and Rutgers did for two young fans, both confined to wheelchairs due to Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), at the conclusion of practice Saturday. In a moment that will remind many of Jack Hoffman’s touchdown run, the Scarlet Knights had Danny Garofalo, 11, and Matt DeRiggi, 16, in the team huddle and drew up a trick play for them. [ MORE: Touchdown has special meaning for two young Rutgers fans ] Matt took the handoff, and Danny came across the field for a reverse that he took it to the house.

Top 5 moments from Saturday's spring games

Sometimes, it’s the moments that have nothing to do with the game itself that highlight spring football. We saw proof of that Saturday, a day that featured plenty of memorable moments in eight games. Watch your team’s replay on BTN2Go. I decided to rank the top 5 moments from the busy day of spring football, and you can see the list in this post. Bo Pelini

Photo: Check out this Bo Pelini 'Lion King' photoshop

After Bo Pelini’s memorable entrance Saturday at Memorial Stadium, it was only a matter of time before “The Lion King” photoshop jobs hit social media. In case you missed it, Pelini held a cat in his arms during the team’s famous tunnel walk, and he raised it into the air once he entered the field. The moment reminded many of this iconic scene from the Disney classic. See a photoshopped photo in this post. @AFRO_THUNDER80 — Riley Milhon (@RJMHoneybadger) April 13, 2014 Why the cat? Well, Pelini and his fake Twitter account, @FauxPelini, which has a picture of the

Jeremiah Sirles

Video: Jeremiah Sirles proposes at spring game

Nearly one month after Mike Peltz proposed to his girlfriend on senior night, former Nebraska offensive lineman Jeremiah Sirles did the same at Saturday’s spring game. Sirles got on a knee during the team’s Punt, Pass and Kick part of the scrimmage. As he was about to punt the ball, he dropped it, reached into his left pocket, walked toward his girlfriend, and took a knee. Watch the proposal in this post. Jack Hoffman

Video: One year later, Jack Hoffman talks TD run

It was just a year ago that Jack Hoffman, then 7, introduced himself to the world with his memorable and emotional touchdown run in Nebraska’s spring game. It’s been a whirlwind year since the brain cancer patient took the handoff from Taylor Martinez and sprinted to paydirt last April. Hoffman has met the President, had an Upper Deck card made and won an ESPY. We caught up with Jack and father Andy Hoffman at Saturday’s spring game. To this day, Andy and the whole Hoffman family are so grateful for the opportunity Bo Pelini and the Huskers provided them. “Jack

Bo Pelini

Video: Bo Pelini enters Nebraska spring game with cat

The way Bo Pelini’s been delighting the masses on social media since the end of last season, you had a feeling he was going to do something special Saturday at Nebraska’s spring game. He did something special, all right, carrying a cat in his arms for the team’s famed tunnel walk. As Pelini entered the field, he hoisted it above his head – a move that delighted the fans and reminded many of “The Lion King.” If you haven’t paid attention recently, Pelini and his fake Twitter account @FauxPelini, which has a photo of Pelini holding a cat as its

Photo: Long winter impacts Ross-Ade Stadium grass

Nobody needs to be reminded that it was a long, long winter. The grass at Ross-Ade Stadium during Saturday’s spring game is all the proof anyone needs. One of the Big Ten’s three fields still with natural surface, the field had a yellow hue to it in several spots and a couple streaks near both 30-yard lines that stretched from one sideline to the other. See a photo of the field in this post. The field has seen better days at Ross-Ade Stadium. #moreindianagrassnews — Brent Yarina (@BTNBrentYarina) April 12, 2014 To no surprise, the grass received plenty of
