The Big Ten’s oldest basketball arena won’t look all that old – at least in the scoreboard department – when the 2012-13 season tips. That’s right, Williams Arena’s new and improved scoreboard has been installed and is ready for Minnesota basketball.

Twitter: What trick play do Spartans run vs. Irish?

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

Love him or hate him, Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio is a favorite among fans who enjoy trick plays. That’s everyone, right? Dantonio was up to his bold ways in Michigan State’s season opener against Boise State, and while the trick play didn’t work, we all appreciated the effort. If history is any indication, Dantonio may call another Saturday against Notre Dame.

With Week 2 behind us, it’s time for my latest Big Ten Player Rankings. Again, I’m doing these a little different this year. Back & Forth: Which Week 1 outing caused concern?

Denard Robinson

Denard Robinson Talks Alabama Loss

It wasn’t a pretty start for Michigan’s Denard Robinson or Michigan State’s Andrew Maxwell in the first week of the 2012 college football season. Together, the two quarterbacks completed 33-of-64 passes (52 percent) for one touchdown and five interceptions. Robinson accounted for the lone touchdown and Maxwell completed a respectable 22 passes, however that was about it. Whose performance was more concerning, though? BTN.com’s Tom Dienhart and Brent Yarina debate it in this post as they do each week in Back & Forth.

Purdue to honor late Neil Armstrong with helmet decal

Purdue produced Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, so it’s only appropriate the school honors the late astronaut. Starting Saturday afternoon at Notre Dame, the football team will wear an Armstrong helmet decal on the back of its lids. The sticker, which features an astronaut holding a Purdue flag inside of text that includes Armstrong’s surname and years of birth and death, will sit atop the American flag on Purdue’s helmet.

Lindy's Sports put 3 Big Ten men's hoops teams in top 6

Is it November yet? This winter, the Big Ten will boast so much talent on the hardwood that we could be in store for one of the most exciting and memorable conference seasons in recent history. Lindy’s Sports did nothing to temper those expectations, placing three Big Ten teams in the top six of its Lindy’s top 10. That’s Indiana, at No. 2, Michigan, at No. 3, and Ohio State, at No. 6. Calling all freshmen: Gophers gather for photo

The University of Minnesota’s Class of 2016 gathered at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday for a really cool photo op. An annual tradition, the entire class formed Minnesota’s “M” logo, with “2016” below it, at midfield. To little surprise, 5,500-plus students yield a massive logo. The base of the “M” stretched from one 15-yard line to the other – a total of 70 yards. To put it in perspective, that’s more than two basketball courts.

A closer look: Le'Veon Bell's career night

Le'Veon Bell

Le'Veon Bell Leap

Andrew Weber-US Presswire

In case you missed it Friday night, Michigan State running back Le’Veon Bell put on quite the performance against Boise State. The junior star had his “Heisman Moment,” one could argue, touching the ball 50 times and totaling 265 yards and two touchdowns in the Spartans’ 17-13 comeback win at Spartan Stadium. Bell on his big night: “I had no idea how many carries or yards I had. It was the most I’ve had in my collegiate career,” he told The AP. “But I’ve still got a lot of things to work on to get better.” That’s a scary thought for Big Ten defenses. Read more about Bell’s big night in this post.
