Photo: Mason Monheim is a (very) good samaritan

Illinois linebacker Mason Monheim is an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee, and he showed why after Monday’s scrimmage. With the rain pouring down in Rantoul, home of Illinois’ training camp, the players sprinted off the field. Everyone but Monheim, that is. Get our latest Gone Viral moments: On his way to the media tent, Monheim noticed a young girl having trouble with her bicycle. He ran over to her and helped her put the chain back on her bike, before heading over to the tent to conduct interviews. Talk about a class act. About Brent Yarina BTN.com senior editor

Devin Gardner says he's been sacked 'twice' in camp

Give Devin Gardner time in the pocket, and the Michigan quarterback can hurt opponents with his arm or legs. We’ve seen Gardner compile eye-popping stat lines – Notre Dame and Indiana ring a bell? – but poor line play led to an inconsistent and turnover-prone 2013 season. The Wolverines ranked 105th in sacks allowed (2.77 per game), 113th in yards per rush (3.3) and 121st in tackles for a loss allowed (8.77 per game). Get our latest football tour coverage: Well, Gardner has some good news for Michigan fans. “I’ve only been sacked, like, twice since camp started,” Gardner said,

Video: Alex Gordon leads 'Go Big Red' chant

Former Nebraska baseball star Alex Gordon smacked a home run Saturday on Nebraska Night at Kaufman Stadium, and to celebrate he led the red-clad Royals fans in a “Go Big Red” chant during his postgame on-field interview. Get our latest Gone Viral moments: The Huskers fans, of course, responded with a loud “Go Big Red!” “I’m sure all the Kansas and Missouri fans loved that,” Gordon said. Gordon, a Nebraska football fan, ended his interview with this: “Well, I usually can’t wait for football season, to go tailgating with the Husker fans, but this is pretty cool, too,” he said

Photo: Bo Pelini takes photo with newlyweds

See Bo Pelini out in public, you better ask him for a photo. The Nebraska football coach is no stranger to posing for photos, and he proved it yet again Saturday for a couple of newlyweds. See the picture in this post. There was this creative sign on Nebraska Night at Kaufman Stadium. Why pick on Hunter Pence, you ask? It’s all part of a

Video: Badgers put Udelhoven on scholarship

How many scholarships have Gary Andersen and staff awarded Wisconsin walk-ons since they arrived in January 2013: 6, 8 or 10? That was the question Andersen asked walk-on Connor Udelhoven in a trivia game at a team meeting. Udelhoven’s answer: “Six?” to which Andersen replied: “Six? Nope, it was eight. But now it’s nine; you’re on scholarship.” The room, as expected, erupted after the news. Watch the whole scene in the video above. Steve Spurrier makes jab at Big Ten's depth

From the can’t-the-season-just-start-already file, Steve Spurrier made headlines Sunday by making a jab at the Big Ten. Spurrier, in reference to Nick Saban’s idea for the “Power Five” conferences to only play one another, knocked the Big Ten’s depth. See the quote in this post. Check out our other Gone Viral posts: Spurrier on scheduling, "playing East Carolina is probably tougher than playing one of those bottom tier Big Ten Teams," — William Gunter (@WillGunter560) August 3, 2014 Really, I’m not so sure this is so much a knock on the Big Ten as it is a compliment to East

Photo: Ludacris posts Illini-themed #tbt shot

Video: Wildcat coaches spoof Seinfeld's show

Jerry Seinfeld has Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and now Northwestern has Coaches in Cars Getting Coffee. The Wildcats recently posted the Seinfeld-inspired video (watch above), and it features Pat Fitzgerald and Chris Collins driving around the city, hitting all the big sports venues, and talking sports. Collins plays “Seinfeld,” the driver in the video, and Fitzgerald is the guest sitting shotgun. Check out our latest Gone Viral posts: Northwestern’s choice of car? The Acura MDX. There’s a lot of fun stuff in this video. I bet it surprised no one to hear Fitzgerald say he was a big Mike

Bo Pelini unveils new Nebraska alternate uniform

Bo Pelini told reporters Tuesday at Big Ten media days that the team would break out a new alternate uniform for its Big Ten opener Sept. 27 vs. Illinois. On Friday, Pelini unveiled the new “Red Rising” design at a team meeting. He didn’t do it with the help of a mannequin, either. Nope, Pelini entered the room donning the new look himself. Watch the video and see pictures of the new design in this post.
