No. 1 Maryland downs No. 4 Penn State, 20-10, to advance to NCAA final

The top-ranked Maryland women’s lacrosse team topped Big Ten rival Penn State, 20-10, on Saturday to advance to the national championship game.

The Terrapins, who advance to their fifth straight NCAA final appearance and 21st all time, will play Boston College.

Sophomore Jen Giles notched a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists to pace the attack at Gillette Stadium. Freshman Kali Hartshorn and junior Taylor Hensh both added four goals for the Terps, while sophomore goalie Megan Taylor made 10 saves to propel Maryland to its fifth straight NCAA Championship game.

Maryland’s 20 goals set a new NCAA semifinal game record, and the 10-goal victory marked the program’s second such semifinal win in as many years (2016 – Syracuse, 19-9).

Maryland and Boston College play at 11 a.m. ET Sunday.
