Five Big Ten players selected in 2017 WNBA Draft, all picked in Top 15

Five Big Ten women’s basketball players were selected in Thursday’s 2017 WNBA Draft, and four of them were selected in the first round within the Top 10.

One more Big Ten player was selected in the three-round, 36-pick draft, as Ohio State’s Shayla Cooper was taken with the first pick of the second round (No. 13 overall) by the Connecticut Sun.

Northwestern career rebounds leader Nia Coffey was the first former Big Ten hooper off the board, selected by the San Antonio Stars with the fifth overall pick.

Maryland’s Shatori Walker-Kimbrough was one pick behind her at No. 6, and she’ll be staying close to Maryland’s campus as a Washington Mystics selection.

Another Terp went two picks later at No. 8, as Brionna Jones was selected by the Connecticut Sun.

Michigan State’s Tori Jankoska was the last Big Ten alum to be picked in the first round, as she was selected one pick later at No. 9 by the Chicago Sky.
