Ohio State's Mitchell becomes fastest to reach 2,000 points in NCAA women's history
The No. 12 Ohio State women’s basketball team won big over Southern Wednesday night, but their 108-73 victory wasn’t the main story in Columbus.
Junior Kelsey Mitchell grabbed the highlight of the night on the back of an outstanding career body of work, becoming the fastest player in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history to score 2,000 career points. Mitchell knocked down two free throws for points No. 1,999 and 2,000 in just her 79th career game, becoming the seventh Ohio State player to reach the 2,000-point milestone.
“I didn’t know anything about it until I heard my teammates and people in the crowd, saying score two more points,” Mitchell said with a smile after the game. “I was like, ‘for what?'”
Mitchell added that the accomplishment “feels pretty normal.”
Spoken like a true bucket-getter.
