Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany joined the set of "BTN Tailgate" on Saturday to discuss the latest on the topic of Big Ten football players protesting during the National Anthem. It is a topic that BTN has covered recently, especially after the passionate comments made by Nebraska's Michael Rose-Ivey.

Delany, a former student-athlete himself during the turbulent 1960s, offered up some insight on the role of a coach in this issue.

"Their job is to take people from disparate backgrounds, bring them together, be united, and play as a team," Delany said. "But as a member of a team, you don't forfeit your right as a citizen or a student."

"Our coaches are doing a really great job in leading and guiding young people."
