Best of Michigan State's spring football game

Michigan State concluded its spring football season with the annual spring game today.

The Spartans are looking to repeat as Big Ten champions, but in order to do so, they will have to replace several key members who were lost to graduation.

The most obvious position of focus is at quarterback, where Tyler O'Connor, Damion Terry, Brian Lewerke and Mesiah deWeaver are looking to replace Connor Cook, who graduated as MSU's winningest quarterback in program history.

Other positions of note included defensive end, offensive tackle and wide receiver.

Here is a look at the "best of" Michigan State's spring football game.

Best player: QB Tyler O'Connor

O'Connor was considered the leader to start at QB heading into Saturday's spring game. His performance reaffirmed the coaches' trust in the senior signal caller. O'Connor completed 10-of-16 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. He also showed some versatility, running for 28 yards on the ground.

Best play: Tyler O'Connor's 18-yard TD pass for Cam Chambers

Best catch: Jamal Lyles hauls in a highlight-reel catch off the flea-flicker

Best run: Delton Williams' touchdown run

Best surprise: DE Mufi Hunt

Hunt, who was very impressive off the edge in Saturday's spring game, has quite a story. A 6-6, 260 pound defensive end from Salt Lake City, Hunt originally planned to arrive on campus in 2017 after serving a two-year mission. However, he suffered a knee injury last summer on a hiking trip that required knee surgery. He made the decision to enroll at MSU this year and has made an immediate impression on the staff. He could work his way into the defensive line rotation this year.
