University of Illinois Director of Athletics Mike Thomas dismissed the head football coach Friday afternoon, citing preliminary results of an external review into allegations involving the program, and named the offensive coordinator as interim head coach.

Cubit joined the Illini coaching staff in 2013, after serving as the head coach at Western Michigan from 2005-2012. He posted a 51-47 record during his time there, including a 36-27 mark in the Mid-American Conference.

Thomas said Cubit, who is scheduled to make $510,000 in 2015, will receive an extra $100,00 for the next four months.
