Matt Painter made it official Tuesday afternoon, announcing that Texas-Arlington guard Johnny Hill has joined the Purdue program.

A resident of Glendale Heights, Illinois, Hill will be eligible to play immediately via the NCAA?s Graduate Student Transfer rule. He will graduate this spring with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

?We are excited to have Johnny join our program and he will give us experience and leadership in our backcourt,? head coach Matt Painter said. ?We feel Johnny can give us a long, veteran point guard that will have success in the Big Ten. He will be a welcome addition to our team.?

A 6-3, 180-pound guard, Hill averaged 10.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 21 games last season before suffering a season-ending wrist injury.

Hill transferred to Texas-Arlington after two seasons at Illinois State, where he played as a freshman and sophomore, helping the Redbirds to an 18-15 record in 2012-13.

Hill joins a roster that returns eight of its top nine players and returns four starters from a team that went 21-13 overall and finished tied for third in the Big Ten standings with a 12-6 league record.
