Purdue's Danny Ezechukwu was ejected early in the third quarter from the team's rivalry game Saturday at Indiana.

Ezechukwu, while in the scrum following an Indiana fumble deep in Purdue territory, made contact with the umpire who was trying to get the players up to see who came up with the ball.

Indiana running back Tevin Coleman recovered the fumble, and the penalty gave the Hoosiers an automatic first down. It would have been fourth down without the penalty.

The final ruling, according to the head official, was a dead-ball unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for contacting an official.

Griffin Oakes hit a 23-yard field goal to end the drive and make it a 6-3 deficit.
