Minnesota unveiled a new alternate helmet during BTN Live's visit Saturday. The gold lid, with a maroon "M," facemask and stripe down the middle, was on our set for Saturday night's show. The helmet also features the school's "Ski-U-Mah" cheer on the front and back of the stripe. See the helmet in this post.

This is a nice compliment to Minnesota's primary matte maroon helmet, debuted prior to the 2012 season. According to @GopherFootball, the Gophers will wear the helmet for a few games this year.

A team spokesman at Big Ten media days said the Gophers do not expect to wear the white alternate lid it wore in last year's bowl game.
