When it comes to college hoops, you will be challenged to find many nicer arenas around the nation than Maryland's Comcast Center. Known as "The House that Gary Built," in honor of former Maryland head basketball coach Gary Williams, Comcast Center first broke ground in July, 2000, and was completed in the fall of 2002. October 11, 2002: The Terrapins hosted the first public basketball event in the newly built stadium — Midnight Madness.
November 24, 2002: Maryland defeated Miami University (Ohio) 64-49 in the first official men's basketball game at Comcast Center.
January 18, 2003: The Terrapins defeated then undefeated No. 1 Duke, 87-72.
March, 2005: Comcast Center hosted the first-and second-round games for the 2005 NCAA women's basketball tournament.
February 7, 2006: Maryland defeated Virginia, 76-65, giving coach Gary Williams his 349th win, the most in Maryland school history.

January 28, 2007: Maryland's women's team lost to North Carolina, 84-71, in front of the largest crowed ever to watch an ACC women's regular season basketball game (17,950).
January 25, 2012: The basketball court is named in honor of long-time coach Gary Williams, who retired the previous season.
November 17, 2013: President Barack Obama and the first family attend a game vs. Oregon State, which was coached by Craig Robinson, the brother of Michelle Obama.
May 7, 2013: The Dalai Lama appeared at the Comcast Center to give an address on peace, compassion and fellowship as part of the Anwar Sadat Lecture Series.
