Six swimmers and both relays scored points to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team to a fourth-place standing after the first day of the NCAA Championships on Thursday (March 27) inside the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Nine points separated the top three teams, led by Texas (146 points), California (145 points) and Florida (137 points).

Two lanes down from him was sophomore Anders Nielsen (Farum, Denmark), as the Dane took eighth to round out the championship final (4:16.88). In the consolation final, senior Michael Wynalda (Wyoming, Mich./Grandville) took 13th (4:16.40), while senior Sean Ryan (Hixson, Tenn./McCallie School) was 15th (4:16.59).
