D.J. Newbill scored a team-high 19 points as Penn State notched a 69-65 win over Hampton on Wednesday night in the opening round of the CBI. Brandon Taylor added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Tim Frazier chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Nittany Lions.

Brian Darden scored 22 points and Deron Powers added 19 points for Hampton.

With the victory, Penn State will advance to play Siena in the second round of the tournament.
