There were a pair of Big Ten women's basketball games on Sunday afternoon. No. 15 Penn State kicked off the action by dropping No. 22 Iowa, 87-71, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. (AP) Maggie Lucas hit five 3-pointers on her way to 27 points to lead No. 15 Penn State to an 87-71 victory over No. 22 Iowa on Sunday. Penn State (10-3, 1-0 Big Ten) won its second game against a ranked opponent this season. Iowa (12-3, 0-1) lost for the first time at home this season.

MICHIGAN 64, OHIO STATE 49 | RECAP

(MGoBlue.com) The University of Michigan women's basketball team held Ohio State without a point over the final 7:23 of the first half to take control of the game, knocking off the Buckeyes, 64-49, on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 5) at Value City Arena. Junior guard Nicole Elmblad recorded her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points with 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Siera Thompson went for 18 points, two assists and two steals, with junior guard Shannon Smith chipping in 17 points and three assists. U-M outrebounded OSU, 48-33, led by junior forward Cyesha Goree and Elmblad each with 12. For the game, U-M shot 92.9 percent (26-for-28) from the free throw line, including a perfect 20-for-20 mark in the second half.
