Dennard, Shazier named USA TODAY All-Americans

With the regular season in the books and bowl games just around the corner, USA TODAY released their All-American teams on Wednesday. Michigan State defensive back Darqueze Dennard and Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier were honored as first-team All-Americans.

Dennard, a senior cornerback, had four interceptions and 10 pass breakups this season for the Spartans. He was also honored as the winner of the Jack Tatum Award (nation’s top defensive back), earlier today.

Shazier, a junior linebacker, led the Big Ten in tackles with 122 and in tackles for loss (21). He is a finalist for the Butkus Award, which goes annually to the nation’s top linebacker.

The second team featured four Big Ten members, highlighted by Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan. Also featured on the second team is Michigan State sophomore defensive end Shilique Calhoun, Wisconsin senior linebacker Chris Borland and Northwestern senior kicker Jeff Budzien.

Here is the complete list of USA TODAY’s first and second-team All-American selections.
