Gary Williams honored at Maryland/OSU game

Gary Williams may be best known for leading the Maryland Terrapins on that memorable National Championship run back in 2002, but before that, Williams served as the head coach at Ohio State from 1986-1989. During that three year span, Williams led the Buckeyes to a combined 59-41 record, including back-to-back 20-win seasons and an NCAA Tournament appearance in the 1986-87 season.

Williams was honored before Wednesday's Ohio State vs. Maryland game for his outstanding coaching contributions, one year before the Terrapins are scheduled to join Ohio State in the Big Ten conference.

"He's been one of the real leaders here over the last 20-25 years," Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said of Williams. "I was glad that he's been able to make a contribution with BTN now and hopefully into the future, and I was glad that we were able to honor him in Columbus tonight."
