Bowl Projections: Ohio State down to Rose Bowl

I’m finally gonna acquiesce to the notion that Ohio State faces a challenge to get to the BCS title game. Yes, the Buckeyes have a great shot to go unbeaten. But that may not be enough for OSU to finish No. 1 or No. 2 in the final BCS standings, as teams like Alabama, Oregon and Clemson are primed to likely finish ahead of Ohio State if they remain unbeaten. So, I’m moving the Buckeyes from the BCS title game to the Rose Bowl.

Long ways to go, yet. Stanford got beat, and so if they upset Oregon, that will take out the PAC-12. Clemson really struggled with Boston College. Florida State may get them. Of course, that could make Florida State leap Ohio State, too. The SEC isn’t guaranteed a birth, either, no matter what people say. If LSU beats ‘Bama, that will get interesting. I don’t see a one loss team from the SEC getting in over two unbeatens–say Florida State and Ohio State.

Clearly Michigan State is not going back to the BWW bowl. They have their sights on winning the Legends division.

John D. Hinckley on 10/14/2013 @ 11:45am EDT Said:

How can anybody think that Iowa is going to be in any bowl game, especially on Jan 1?? That’s utterly ridiculous.

Kevin Gillman on 10/14/2013 @ 12:15pm EDT Said:

Very sad though that a team could go 25-0 in the last two seasons, and NOT get in the BCS Title game. I can’t wait until the playoff system starts. Then it’s put up, or shut up.

Tom; pretty early to make these predictions but I do understand that perception sometimes equals reality. I am not sure how the B1G will turn out as it appears there is Ohio State and Wisconsin at the top, then Michigan State, then Michigan and Nebraska and Northwestern all trying to figure out their true identity. Throw in PSU and Indiana who can beat anyone on a given day and the ending result is chaos. I can see Bama getting beat but Oregon looks solid and Fla State beat a decent Maryland team into the dirt! Guess time will tell so stay tuned.

Once again, you have MSU in a pretty bad bowl. Not even on New Years. I hope you’re not waiting much longer to put us in a real bowl.

I still think Illinois has a good shot at a bowl game.

would Love to see the Huskers play Missouri in the Outback Bowl. We may be in the BIG now, but will never stop hating on MIZZ.

LJohnson on 10/14/2013 @ 6:14pm EDT Said:

25-0 against a pretty weak schedule Kevin- let’s wait until they play someone. I’m as big a Big 10 fan as anyone, but have to be realistic here- the league simply hasn’t been that good the past couple seasons. Look no further than the bowl record. They simply don’t look like one of the best 2 teams in the Nation (this season or last).

Also, remember FSU play UF in a rivalry game to end their season and Clemson play South Carolina in another rivalry game. Those two are very ‘losable’ for FSU and Clemson. A nice win for Clemson over UGA in the very first game of the year, but they haven’t been real impressive since. And FSU has beaten anyone yet… with all due respect to our future friends at Maryland… Also, I agree that there is no guarantee a one-loss SEC makes the title game if there are two other major undefeateds, say OSU and Oregon. Remember last year veryone was saying OSU would have played ND had they been eligible.

Right now, I say Bama and Oregon are the two best teams, but hopefully OSU gets to that level by the end of the year. The first half of the NW game made me want to throw in the towel for OSU. They were terrible.

Jay Waugh on 10/15/2013 @ 12:42am EDT Said:

Wait till they play somebody ……. they have been playing somebody ! Ask Stanford if Utah was somebody …. it takes alot to go undeafeated …. for a season, let alone 2. And who has Alabama really played … TexAM ….please. LSU will be their only test. Oregon has played no one ….. Clemson has played 1 team we thought was something, Ga and they have lost 2 times already. If Im not mistaken, NWestern beat 2 ….2 sec teams last year and you hardly ever hear about that when everyone is bashing the Big 10 and slobbering all over the sec. Last I checked those 2 teams were sec ……. and we beat NWest …… so ….. how is everyone gonna feel when you have 3 teams from the sec in the playoffs …… I say if you are not a conference champion, you dont get in …. GO BUCKS !!

Dan on 10/15/2013 @ 3:12am EDT Said:

Iowa has played in more New Year’s Days Bowls the last 10 years than most teams in the B10 and they have a pretty good team this year. John D. Hinckley you need to put aside the hate and face the facts.

blackhawk on 10/15/2013 @ 9:16am EDT Said:

OSU’s schedule has not been that weak. If they go 25-0 they will have 2 wins over Michigan, 2 wins over Penn State, 2 wins over Wisconsin (which will probably be a BCS team both years), one win over MSU, one win over a ranked Northwestern team, one win over Nebraska, and a win over another ranked team in the B1G conference championship game.

huskerfanbb on 10/15/2013 @ 12:36pm EDT Said:

You are delusional. Iowa is going to be lucky to even make a bowl game. Their schedule is brutal. They have one more win vs. Purdue, and then will have to pull an upset to get to 6-6. Even TWO upsets won’t get them to New Year’s Day.

Yeah, I completely forgot about those two games. I think an ACC team running the table is a little unlikely, and they may not be rated over Ohio State even if they are. Clemson certainly looked beatable against Boston College.

ryan eaton on 10/15/2013 @ 5:12pm EDT Said:

so you don’t think osu has a shot despite all the losses on saturday. all the top teams still have to play each other. GO HOOSIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jackson Brown on 10/16/2013 @ 1:03am EDT Said:

A “minor” detail being overlooked here…it is highly unlikely that OSU beats Michigan two weeks in a row. If they lose on the wrong week, they could end up in the Capital One Bowl instead of the Rose or BCS.

jaxsat on 10/16/2013 @ 1:05am EDT Said:

One minor detail being overlooked here…It is highly unlikely that OSU can beat Michigan two weeks in a row. Lose the wrong week, and OSU drops all the way to the Capital One Bowl instead of the Rose or BCS Championship. It would be better for OSU if Michigan loses once more and doesn’t make it to the B10 Championship Game.

Mike Lee on 10/16/2013 @ 12:15pm EDT Said:

I think the people on here predicting OSU vs UM in the championship game is bizarre.. Do any of you watch football?

huskerfanbb on 10/16/2013 @ 12:46pm EDT Said:

Yup. Michigan lost to Penn State. They can’t run the ball. Their defense isn’t as good as advertised, and Gardner turns the ball over too much.

They aren’t going to the championship game. That delusion died in Happy Valley. Well, maybe the delusion didn’t, but the reality of that happening did.

DoucheOwebama on 10/16/2013 @ 2:23pm EDT Said:

The Pizza Bowl? Seriously? It may as well be the Toilet Bowl.

dan on 10/17/2013 @ 1:18am EDT Said:

Iowa needs 2 wins to make a bowl. They have them in Purdue and Nebraska. Neither one are ranked or will be, and neither one would be an upset. Your team is smoke and mirrors just like other years, I guarantee you won’t be in the B10 Championship game which is probably a good thing considering the way Nebbie stinks it up playing real teams on National TV.
