Drew Brees is one of the most popular NFL quarterbacks of this generation. But Brees first made a name for himself during his record-setting college career at Purdue. On Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, “Big Ten Elite” profiles the 2000 Purdue football team. In this documentary program, we look back at all the unforgettable moments that led to the Boilermakers’ Big Ten Championship season, the program’s first since 1966.
Brees led Purdue to an 8-4 record in 2000, including a perfect 7-0 mark at home. He closed out his career at Purdue with 11,792 passing yards and 90 touchdown passes, both Big Ten Conference records. The Boilermakers’ star quarterback won the Maxwell Award as the nation’s most outstanding player of 2000 and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Purdue defeated Indiana 41-13 to close out the conference season, earning the program’s first Rose Bowl appearance since 1967.
The show will feature interviews with Brees, head coach Joe Tiller and Vinny Sutherland, among others.
