Photo: Michigan band forms 'OHNO' at halftime

Michigan Band

Ohio State’s “Script Ohio” is one of college football’s great traditions. Well, during halftime of Michigan’s season opener vs. Central Michigan, the Michigan band formed a print “OHNO.” See a picture of it in this post.

Fair or foul, Big Ten fans?

I’ll say it again: I love how Brady Hoke and Urban Meyer have re-energized this rivalry. Things like this just seem to keep popping up, and it’s because both programs are in great hands and the fanbases are loving every moment of it.

Lol I read these posts and Just laugh. OHIO is famous for the Ohio script and that was taught to them by Michigan. OHIO can’t even make their own traditions.

@mike..s’matter?? u jealous? you WISH ohio had come up with something like this first..I’m just curious to see what ohio will come back with to retaliate..which you know they will..

Hey jwmort. Congrats on beating a 4-8 buffalo team by 20. Michigan actually beat a team that had a wining record last….by 50. No one is scared of you worthless nuts

Scooter on 8/31/2013 @ 11:00pm EDT Said:

If by “class” you truly mean a loosing record, you are correct. It’s a low blow but we will prevail in November.

Buckimion (@Buckimion) on 8/31/2013 @ 11:36pm EDT Said:

This doesn’t have to do with Ohio State, Hoke just found the elevator to the press box buffet.

Greg on 8/31/2013 @ 11:42pm EDT Said:

Really? Already worried about the Buckeyes I see. Keep worrying about the Buckeyes and that way you can get beat a few more games than if you weren’t. Just goes to show how the Buckeyes have you sweating already about your last game of the season.

JoeW on 8/31/2013 @ 11:45pm EDT Said:

As an OSU fan I like it. Validates the rivalry and is no different than the OSU band playing the “don’t give a bleep about the whole state of Michigan” song and other variants of the victors song containg words that violate posting rules. As far as using score differential between victories over mid to low level MAC teams UM had a better opening round. Michigan has done very well the past few years in the first half of the season. It’s late October and November when they seem to lose games. So hats of to UM for winning the opening day “Play a crappy MAC team bowl!” You will receive your trophy in 2-3 weeks.

John M on 9/1/2013 @ 1:16am EDT Said:

It’s not Ohio, it’s Ohio State. Ohio is in Athens. Remember? Ohio? The team that beat you guys in the Sweet 16?

Hey davecleveland. Congrats on not crossing the 50 against Ohio State in the 2nd half. Even Buffalo did that.

God, that state is a giant tire fire. I thought Toledo was a dump until I saw Detroit. Just give them money and let them keep talking about Ohio State. Does it really hurt anyone for them to try to feel relevant?

shane on 9/1/2013 @ 9:04am EDT Said:

@ steve. Lol I read your post and just laughed. Ttun can’t even get their own coaches from tsun, they’re all from OHIO.

Scott on 9/1/2013 @ 9:45am EDT Said:

These were tune-up games kids, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The real talking will be done on the field as the season wears on and in Ann Arbor last week of the regular season. Nobody’s worried, everyone IS looking forward to the showdown of Two emerging powerhouses come the end of November. From what I saw Saturday, they both looked good, but still in need of some polish. The rough will be rode off as the season progresses. So to all you Superhomers, keep poking each other with sticks. If first week is any indication, It’s gonna get exciting once the Big10 season starts.

JA on 9/1/2013 @ 9:48am EDT Said:

So which marching band performed a script Ohio first? Michigan. Which marching band created “Script Ohio”? Ohio State.

Molly on 9/1/2013 @ 10:12am EDT Said:

As much as I hate that team up north, we do the exact same thing. Durin one of our halftime shows for Halloween we made them zombies and tackled them. It keeps the rivalry strong. GO BUCKS!

Brian Schumacher on 9/1/2013 @ 10:16am EDT Said:

As a Buckeye, I’m glad that That School Up North is stoking the rivalry (however, if anyone saw both band shows at The Game last year, you’d know why Ohio State’s band is the only one earning articles from USA Today). Arguing by comparing wins yesterday (since both count as 1-0 in history) or name calling is useless and frankly embarrassing your respective team. What matters will occur on November 30th, I will be there (in enemy territory) proudly wearing my colors, and we will see whose program really deserves accolades and whose can proclaim ‘wait till next year.’

Michiganplease on 9/1/2013 @ 10:47am EDT Said:

Two possible explainations :)

They were expressing what they feel all year, OH NO, we have to get our butts kicked by OSU again this year.

Another possibilty is the Michigan band was trying to honor OSU but just can’t spell. They go Michigan.

Steve on 9/1/2013 @ 11:00am EDT Said:

I Love it- between Urb throwing out NFL scouts for wearing blue, Hoke saying Ohio (of course their chant says it all- O-H-I-O- where is the State?), Hoke not wearing red- it all keeps the greatest rivalry in sports history going. Just goes to show- Big 2, little 8, or however many it is now! Go Blue!

Buckeye 77 on 9/1/2013 @ 11:19am EDT Said:

Look at that…… They misspelled O-H-I-O…. and they had to print it so their fans could read it too. What a hoot! They can’t spell and they can’t understand cursive…..

WOW!!! over the band get a life… I seen the Ohio State band last year do the Video game theme and it was one of the best half time shows I have seen. And yes they used the Michigan Flag to rep a villain’s flag in which it change to a Bucknut flag… who cares it looked good…. I will just wait to see who get in done in NOV

Yo on 9/1/2013 @ 11:26am EDT Said:

I’m a Buckeye fan and this is just all in fun. I hope we don’t retaliate cause that just means you’re paying attention…We don’t need to worry about ttun until November. We see that there worry and concern for us is a year round thing. Can’t say I blame them. Go Bucks!

This is simply just a response to Urban Meyer’s “banning NFL scouts from wearing blue” stunt. Maybe Urban should refrain from attempting to play mind games with a rival who isn’t scared of him.

What do you expect out of Michigan, they know with Urban they have no chance – they are just admitting it – OH -NO

Laura on 9/2/2013 @ 11:35am EDT Said:

Are we sure this had anything to do with OSU? It looks to me that the UM band was trying to encourage Apolo Anton Ohno to compete in the 2014 Olympics. Or perhaps he is their favorite Dancing With the Stars champ.

K-Man on 9/2/2013 @ 11:44am EDT Said:

At least their bands are keeping it lively, because their QB’s look like shite. And OSU’s O line was a friggin joke. Why so many experts have OSU in the debate for #1 is beyond me. Cramping up on your home field?? Practice much??

M McClure on 9/2/2013 @ 12:09pm EDT Said:

@John M: I believe that the OSU band does NOT form “Ohio State” but just “Ohio” and shockingly that is the name of the state not Ohio State. I think this is great fun since OSU puts it on football: maximum number of academic exemptions in the Big Ten, separate rules for FB players and exotically paid staff, and few diplomas earned. But just win baby!

James Browder on 9/2/2013 @ 12:21pm EDT Said:

Where is Carrie? I do not see her.

gobucks2009 on 9/2/2013 @ 12:46pm EDT Said:

We could always drop to their level and script out “NO BLUE” or “WISHIGAN” for the last 12 years “WISH’N AGAIN” they could could just beat the Bucks.

Dave O. on 9/2/2013 @ 12:52pm EDT Said:

It’s a tie! Both schools and many of their fans are equally arrogant.

D-Jackson on 9/2/2013 @ 1:45pm EDT Said:

No red at practice, OHNO, no blue at practice, Urban being urban…The rivalry is getting better and better. I love all of this because it makes me hate the %uckeyes even more.

Michael bass on 9/2/2013 @ 2:30pm EDT Said:

This just shows you that ohio fans are obsessed with michigan. They have a song made about them and they leave these stupidest ass comments hating on this. Like go the fuck away!!

DC Terry on 9/2/2013 @ 3:03pm EDT Said:

EB, et al, it’s quite a stretch to say you “gave” OSU this tradition. The UM band did use a formation of the word, “Ohio”, in cursive, but they simply walked directly into that formation. They did not use the choreography that the OSU band uses, drafting out the letters as a pen would on paper.

    mike on 9/2/2013 @ 3:43pm EDT Said:

….once again, demonstrating that they don’t want to put in the work necessary to be the best. OSUMB has done this for YEARS and done it with class. They put time & innovative thinking to work finding ways to improve their band, as opposed to trying an immature tactic to draw attention to themselves. Sad really, that this many people who are supposed to be creative, can’t muster a better result. :-/

sleeper1 on 9/2/2013 @ 3:45pm EDT Said:

Just proves that “that school up North” can’t spell!!!

DC Terry on 9/2/2013 @ 4:09pm EDT Said:

Michael Bass – this shows “Ohio” fans are obsessed with “Michigan”? Did you even look at the photo? :P

At the end of the day, this is, “big, fat, hairy deal”. Both bands have been picking on each other for decades. Why it’s so newsworthy is ridiculous. It’s just another day in the OSU/UM football rivalry.

Oh, and this site is, “btn.com”, not, “michigan-fans-only.com”.

Eastcoastbuck on 9/2/2013 @ 5:36pm EDT Said:

It is interesting that Michigan’s band hasn’t learned to write in cursive yet.

James Forrest on 9/2/2013 @ 5:43pm EDT Said:

Hey I’d like to see that PRINT OHNO in person – anyone else? Well to get to Ann Arbor, go north until you smell it, then west until you step in it.

Blue, even tho I LIVE, BREATHE AND BLEED Ohio State, I thought it was a good gag and good for the rivalry… Dont be a hater, enjoy the spirit of The Game…. Besides after all, it WAS the MICHIGAN band that FIRST scripted Ohio and not us…just sayin.

Jay on 9/2/2013 @ 9:26pm EDT Said:

Did you ever wonder why it takes 2 or more bucknuts to spell ohio and when they get it right, they want to celebrate their brilliance…could you imagine them trying to spell state in addition to ohio…never happens, does it? We all have heard stories of grown men and women overcome with emotion when they see their band spell ohio…is it because of the stress they go through watching the 4 letters be formed in the correct order or the excruciating uncertainty of what comes next? Has anyone ever seen their card section spell out ohio state or do they typically take the path of least resistance and simply spell ohio? Sure is priceless to see them squirm when referred to as ohio, isn’t it…who are the confused ones after all??? Hey bucknuts, if you want to be called ohio state, teach your band how to script it and your fans how to spell it….

Bonnie on 9/2/2013 @ 10:31pm EDT Said:

MI’s band will NEVER be as good as the TBDBITL—OHIO STATE!!!

Too bad that UM couldn’t actually perform a script OHNO, or perhaps they are not capable. Just makes the prank and embarrassment for UM

Roy Schneider on 9/3/2013 @ 8:51am EDT Said:

I like it when Ohio State is always on their minds!! To Quote Steve earlier post “OHIO can’t even make their own traditions.” Yeah and Mich. can not create their own team without OHIO COACHES AND PLAYERS!! This is all in fun Mich did look good Sat. I appreciate ttun’s band trying to pay us a compliment but I am so sad that they forgot how to spell. We have all those blue fans reminding us they “gave” us the Script Ohio but they seem to have stopped teaching spelling in their schools up there. They also only seem to know the cursing part, not cursive.

Ryan D on 9/4/2013 @ 9:35am EDT Said:

ahhh football is back. I hope both teams are undefeated going into the game. The BIG10 needs this rivalry and two successful teams at year end. case closed halftime is for band parents.

walter Disney on 9/4/2013 @ 10:35am EDT Said:

Kind of Like Michigan copying the winged helmet from Princeton or matter of fact Michigan State had a varrying style of the Winged Helmet 8 years before Michigan started using the winged design.

hadley smith on 9/4/2013 @ 6:13pm EDT Said:

@walter disney..There’s some facts we need to straighten out here that you didn’t mention. Fritz Crisler who coached at Princeton before he came to Mich. brought the winged design with him and decided that he would put it on the mich helmets so the qb’s could see the receivers better. He made it their own design, totally different than what Princeton had at the time. So to say mich. copied it is not totally correct. And, even if moou had some kind of winged design before mich. so what?? Mich NEVER claimed they were the first one to have this kind of design!! Your making it sound like we did claim it first. The only thing thats different now is Michigan is the only team in div. 1 with this kind of helmet. And yes, some other teams have copied the design for their own. Which I think is pretty cool. I don’t see no one copying the current moou helmet..nor princeton’s for that matter. Just sayin…
