Dienhart: Kicking off my 2013 bowl projections

Not one football has been kicked off. Regardless, I bring to you my first edition of the 2013 bowl projections. I’ll be rolling these out there every Monday this season, so let me know what you think.

As you can see, I have Ohio State playing Alabama in the BCS title game. That would be a fitting end to the BCS era, with two of the sport’s iconic programs battling in the historic Rose Bowl. Hey, if the Big Ten is gonna show it is making strides on the national scene, what better way to impress than by possibly beating college football’s 10,000-pound gorilla in Alabama? It would be a great opportunity.

For now, I have the Big Ten filling all of its bowl slots. But, that may be difficult to do. Still, for now, Iowa and Illinois are the lone Big Ten teams (Penn State in ineligible) that I have home for the holidays—as I have Indiana, Minnesota and Purdue slipping just under the postseason velvet rope for now. Stay tuned–and keep your eraser handy.

It took a lot of courage to place Sparty in the Gator Bowl Tom, but even Doug knows that is where MSU belongs

Mark, there is no courage when the writer is one of your underlings

Two sets of predictions here. The first assumes the NCAA comes to its senses (or is forced to), realizes that Penn State did nothing wrong and undoes its indecent conduct allowing Penn State to participate in the post season. The second assumes the NCAA continues its immoral, unethical and indecent campaign against Penn State. The only difference is the Big Ten getting a second BCS birth as Penn State should be an automatic BCS qualifier and the conference not getting one.

Rose Bowl – Ohio State
Orange Bowl – Penn State
Capital One Bowl – Michigan State
Outback Bowl – Nebraska
Gator Bowl – Michigan
Chicken Wing Bowl – Wisconsin
Texas Bowl – Northwestern
Dallas Bowl – Minnesota
Pizza Pizza Bowl – unfilled

Wow, seriously went out on a limb with these predictions….1. Ohio State, 2. Nebraska, 3. Michigan

Next you will predict the sun will rise in the east, Thanksgiving will be on a Thursday and the ocean will continue to be wet.

Yet again, Dienhart buries the Hawkeyes. Never mind that every time that the Hawkeyes have been left for dead and forgotten–they’ve come back to be the “surprise” team of the B1G.
