Tom Osborne Field

Nebraska installed new FieldTurf at Memorial Stadium this offseason, and all reports indicate it looks terrific. The new surface also will include a nod to former legendary coach and athletic director Tom Osborne. This fall, the Huskers are putting "Tom Osborne Field" on the white edges of the east and west sidelines.

Osborne's name appeared on the field in 1998, the first season after he retired and the University of Nebraska Board of Regents? approved naming the field after the legendary coach.

Osborne asked the school to remove his name from the playing surface the following season, however, because he didn't think it was fair to then-coach Frank Solich.

Fourteen seasons later, Osborne's name is back where it belongs. And Nebraska fans are going to love the gesture.

Osborne won five national titles with the Huskers, including three as a head coach (1994, 1995 and 1997). The first coach to retire as a reigning champion, Osborne finished his career with a 255-49-3 clip.
