What can a cool $3,000 buy you these days? If you're Ohio State junior and Mazda MX-5 Cup driver Patrick Gallagher, it can get you one of the coolest racing helmets in the business. Gallagher, a mechanical engineering major, will debut a helmet that's hand painted to look like an Ohio State football helmet this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

I wonder who the fans will be cheering for this weekend. No doubt about it, any and all Ohio State enthusiasts at this race will immediately have a new favorite driver.

?I am thrilled to have the support of The Ohio State University and the opportunity to wear the school colors on a unique helmet design,? Gallagher told NBCSports.com. ?To have the support of so many people from such a large school like Ohio State is an incredible feeling. We will be looking to score a win for the whole OSU group!?

According to the NBCSports.com story, the helmet will be signed and auctioned immediately after the event, with all funds benefiting the Hematosis and Thrombosis Center at the Nationwide Children?s Hospital in Columbus.

The online auction began Monday, and you can find more information on cjwilsonracing.com.

Gallagher is a full-time driver for Los Angeles of Anaheim pitcher CJ Wilson's No. 28 MAZDASPEED Motorsports Racing MX-5 car.
