Is the Horseshoe about to get even bigger? According to Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch, the Ohio State athletic department will send a proposal to the university’s board of trustees next week seeking approval for a 2,500-seat addition to Ohio Stadium in 2014.

The project, estimated to cost $9 million, would make Ohio Stadium the third-largest college football stadium. The two largest? Those also happen to be Big Ten venues, with Michigan Stadium coming in at 109,901 and Beaver Stadium 106,572.

The addition would push Ohio State’s seating capacity from 102,329 to 104,829, surpassing Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium (102,455).

Proposal is a funny description. I’ve never not seen something leaked/confirmed that hasn’t been approved by the Board of Trustees, such as increased ticket prices or a renovation to a facility.

One thing I dislike is the continued closing of the Horseshoe shape, but that kind of already happened. The continued ‘pricing out’ of the general public may also be an issue in the future (ticket prices never go down in sports).

I wonder how many catholics will support this plan.

Only an OSU fan would consider a “mom joke” to still be worthwhile in 2013.

Why settle for one of 3 in the big ten and not just be the largest? plus Michigan? OSU is one if not the largest and has the largest alumni ( i believe) so lets make it 112,000 and call it a day!

Is a expansion really needed at the horse shoe or are they merely doing this for the publicity/to be in the top 3? How many years of consecutive sell out games do they have?

It is amazing to me that these college stadiums have so much more capacity than NFL stadiums.
