Sorry Indy but those helmets look horrible,Go Blue!!

Jason hite on 5/29/2013 @ 11:58am EDT Said:

Clearly a biased photo for the helmet challenge….Michigan pic will obviously bring in more UM votes than Indiana.

Ralph on 5/29/2013 @ 12:28pm EDT Said:

I’m not sure why we are having this contest again. Michigan’s helmets have always won every national best helmet poll ever held. Nothing has changed.

Craig on 5/29/2013 @ 12:28pm EDT Said:

What could possibly be bias about the photo’s? It is plain and simple, both helmets are lame as are all helmets in the Big Ten.

Paul Horning on 5/29/2013 @ 12:59pm EDT Said:

Princeton’s… I mean Delaware’s… I mean Michigan’s helmets aren’t even original

Jason on 5/29/2013 @ 1:09pm EDT Said:

Two pretty good choices. MU helmet is cool and Indiana’s logo is cool.

Robert A Dugan on 5/29/2013 @ 1:15pm EDT Said:

Are you kidding me, Ohio State’s helmet kicks both them helmets butt !

Charlie on 5/29/2013 @ 1:17pm EDT Said:

Something is not right here. How did Michigan and Indiana win. Iowa and Penn State had huge leads yesterday and now they have lost. This contest was obviously hacked. Should be PSU and Iowa in the finals. BTN should fix this.

davec on 5/29/2013 @ 1:45pm EDT Said:

Paul, it was used at Princeton by the GUY who invented it and brought with him to Michigan. He couldn’t steal it from himself so it is indeed original. Delaware did copy it from Michigan, Besides, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still the coolest looking helmet around.

Doug on 5/29/2013 @ 1:57pm EDT Said:

Iowa pounded Michigan, and PSU destroyed IU, how did you guys come up with M vs IU?

Tim Gerding on 5/29/2013 @ 2:31pm EDT Said:

BTN must be run by a bunch of idiots. This wasn’t a golf tournament. Indiana and Michigan lost. staff on 5/29/2013 @ 2:41pm EDT Said:

Thanks, Tim and Doug. We’re no sure where you’re seeing that. The results: No. 1 Michigan 65.54% vs. No. 2 Iowa 34.46%; No. 4 Indiana 59.22% vs. No. 3 Penn State 40.78% via the polls on our WordPress blog. Hope that clears things up.

Common Sense on 5/29/2013 @ 2:35pm EDT Said:

Doug I think this removes all doubt that Michigan is Americas team, I noticed you said Penn State understated was what the people want not true, The people identify with the glitz and glamour of the Wolverines, the number one helmet, the number one fight song , arguably the greatest QB ever to play the game in Tom Brady and the best group of Coaches and Young men in America. Hail to the Victors Doug, winners on the field , winners in life and the best football program bar non in America. Now go out there and cast your vote for Big Blue. Mark S is counting on you to do so.

craig on 5/29/2013 @ 3:35pm EDT Said:

BTN staff are full of it.. Iowa was way ahead of michigan late at night and Penn state was even further ahead of indiana..this is all set up and bullcrap! You mean to tell everyone that somehow LATE LATE at night they pulled in all these votes? Get real.. staff on 5/29/2013 @ 3:47pm EDT Said:

Craig, thanks for the note. To illustrate how the scenario you laid out here happens, this is one link that generated a significant amount of votes last night and today, all part of how polls get passed around on the Web. .

We’re sorry you’re upset with the final tally.

Daniel P. Sheerin on 5/29/2013 @ 4:17pm EDT Said:

Does the BTN really think that the vote was really legit? I don’t get how the numbers could turn around so drastically … e.g., Penn State was ahead for the whole week by about 70 percent to 30 percent … these results seem quite suspect. The only way I’ve seen such turnarounds before were via hack attacks.

Anyway, some great uniforms and great traditons throughout the Big Ten.

Tim on 5/29/2013 @ 4:47pm EDT Said:

When does the poll close?

Brent Yarina, on 5/29/2013 @ 5:26pm EDT Said:

    Wednesday, June 5.

Doug on 5/29/2013 @ 4:52pm EDT Said:

Wow, this is getting bad , Iowa was up 65 to 35 and PSU was up 90 to 10, hey mark and dhani, this is really bad, even for you guys. Didn’t Brady lose his senior year to MSU, why yes he did!

Doug on 5/29/2013 @ 5:46pm EDT Said:

Tim it doesn’t matter, it’s already set for michigan to win, as proven by them making the final round.

reality check on 5/29/2013 @ 5:55pm EDT Said:

Vote early and often MSU owns Belein

craig on 5/29/2013 @ 6:28pm EDT Said:

Go to the big ten network facebook page.. I made a post for Iowa, indiana, penn st and Michigan helmets…hit like for which 2 you chose.. wouldn’t doubt if it get’s deleted.

John on 5/29/2013 @ 6:44pm EDT Said:

After viewing the poll results very late in the polling and then seeing the final results, I have to say there is NO credibility in this contest. BTN should question how such a turnaround occurred. However it does appear that the desired result will take place. All of us whom you suckered in to participating feel duped. Except of course maize fans.

Brent Yarina, on 5/29/2013 @ 7:04pm EDT Said:

All – I assure you there is no “fixing” or “rigging” going on in this tournament. I mean, why would we have Ohio State, the conference’s biggest fan base, go out in the second round? Doesn’t make sense. Instead, it’s likely the result of proud and hardcore Michigan fans linking on blogs (, a high-traffic site, is one example) and getting word out on other social media outlets to vote for the Wolverines and against their biggest challengers (OSU, PSU). I know other schools used social media, as well, but it doesn’t appear to have been to the level of Michigan fans.

Tim on 5/29/2013 @ 9:00pm EDT Said:

Paul, Michigan’s helmets aren’t original? Are you kidding me? Check your history, pal. Besides, polls like these are worthless because they are designed solely to get people to the Big Ten Network’s web site. They must be bored there. And to the poster who said the Big Ten’s helmets are ‘lame,’, get a grip. And I am not sure how they do the math, to the poster who said Iowa’s helmets had a big lead last night. REALLY?!!

Common Sense on 5/29/2013 @ 9:19pm EDT Said:

Doug, reality check wants you to know this Checkmate and go Blue

Dan on 5/29/2013 @ 9:57pm EDT Said:

Brent, remember the ESPN poll earlier. Somehow Nebraska jumped all schools in a matter of hours. ESPN finally admitted that the voting was hacked. Penn State was declared the winner. The pride of the Nittany Lions will never go away!!! WE ARE…..

Alex on 5/29/2013 @ 10:05pm EDT Said:

People are so dumb. Fritz Crisler designed the wing and 3 striped helmet white he was coach at Princeton and when he was hired at Michigan he brought it with him. There was no ”stealing” of helmet design. Delaware hired a Michigan graduate to coach in the 1960s and he introduced it there. Then since hundreds of of high schools have taken the design because it looks so sharp. It is still known nationally as the Michigan helmet.

Mary Bleecker on 5/29/2013 @ 11:07pm EDT Said:

Um, Um, Um, who does have the best helmet?

DontGiveADamnForTheWholeStateOfMichigan on 5/30/2013 @ 7:39am EDT Said:

How can Mich not win, the majority of its people, sit at home and vote, vote, vote.

Matt on 5/30/2013 @ 9:54am EDT Said:

Fascinating that there is no mention that maybe people just think Indiana’s helmet and Michigan’s helmets look cooler than the ones they competed against. I think it is hilarious that people get so bent. The poll wasn’t about who’s program was the greatest, or most historic, or who’s tradition is fantastic, it was about who has the coolest looking helmet. You know those people who win the March Madness every year choosing winning teams by color of their jerseys? Perhaps similar input in this poll. Relax.

ThWard on 5/30/2013 @ 10:14am EDT Said:

@DontGiveADamnForTheWholeStateofMichigan: Believe it or not, people have computer access in lots of places. Wireless connectivity on smartphones, etc. I realize that people in Ohio are still using dial-up on AOL, but doesn’t mean the rest of the world still operates in 1994.

Ted on 5/30/2013 @ 10:19am EDT Said:

I was at that game in 99 Doug, We beat the greatest QB in the History of the world 34-31 one of my best memories.

OhioSucks on 5/30/2013 @ 10:41am EDT Said:

Look at all the whiny losers on here.

Typical. If you can’t beat Michigan, whine and cry.

Chet on 5/30/2013 @ 10:54am EDT Said:

Everyone should learn their Michigan helmet history:

Doug on 5/30/2013 @ 11:04am EDT Said:

Dhani, Mark runs this, I know that, it’s OK, just remind him of 1999 when MSU took down the greatest QB in U-M history.

Doug on 5/30/2013 @ 11:50am EDT Said:

Ted, I was there too, and the final score doesn’t show how bad MSU dominated Michigan that game.

Common Sense on 5/30/2013 @ 12:23pm EDT Said:

There was no domination brotha, Brady came in at 34-17 and lit you guys up like a Christmas tree. If the game had been 5 minutes longer Michigan wins,

ChrisK on 5/30/2013 @ 3:03pm EDT Said:

PEOPLE!! Perhaps the odd presentation of the statistics is due to the way BTN releases the results, as in, not real time vote tabulation. I.E., like the way votes are reported during presidential elections which can sometimes be misleading depending on which counties are counted & when. So, the results are shown in no chronological order, thus sometimes the reporting of the results fluctuate wildly. This MUST be the case if in fact everything is on the up & up.

Jason on 5/30/2013 @ 3:22pm EDT Said:

Brady became the stud after he graduated. UM taking credit for his accomplishments in the NFL is laughable. Brees same deal. UM is Michigan’s team, but hardly America’s team. I don’t give a flip about them.

Mike Murphy on 5/30/2013 @ 6:45pm EDT Said:

Indianas helmets are dime a dozen very weak

Doug on 5/30/2013 @ 11:28pm EDT Said:

hey mark, if ands and but, typical michigan excuse, and brady became a great nfl qb, he wasn’t all that at michigan, end your msu obsession dhani, it’s not good for you !

Brent Yarina, on 5/31/2013 @ 9:19am EDT Said:

Again, I promise you there is no fix, no conspiracy, no bot at work here. On Tuesday night (7:17 p.m. ET), the night before polls were closed, published a post ( linking to the page and asking fans to vote. That link, according to our stats, led to more than 10K hits on the helmet bracket page. As I said previously – based on watching Indiana stun Ohio State in Round 2 – dedicated and loyal Michigan fans voted for their school AND against their toughest competitor (first Ohio State, then Penn State).

Yes, Iowa and Penn State were leading at one point, and by a wide margin. That, however, was before MGoBlog published the aforementioned post. The percentages flipped a lot, but that’s to be expected when you have one fan base (a rather large one, at that) responsible for sending fans to the polls hours before closing time.

And, keep in mind, that’s just assuming Michigan fans emailed/tweeted/Facebooked/whatever the MGoBlog link to friends and family. It’s not crazy to think a large number also emailed/tweeted/Facebooked/whatever the direct link ( to friends and family.

Ben Gruber on 5/31/2013 @ 1:31pm EDT Said:

so the UM fans voted for themselves and voted against PSU? Maybe you should try it next time where you can only vote for one team each round and see what happens……..just for giggles. Heck, we have nothing else to do until the season starts………

I haven’t heard anything that elaborate since the magic bullet theory in Oliver Stones movie

Who do you think we are Brent Quicken Loans??

Doug on 5/31/2013 @ 6:52pm EDT Said:

that’s why the poll is dumb, those michigan fans with nothing to do, aka dhani, can vote a million times. we know what really happened though brent, it’s ok

Doug on 6/1/2013 @ 10:54am EDT Said:

Ted : Quicken Loans, nice ! I think Mark might catch on to that one !

Teddy Football on 6/2/2013 @ 1:09pm EDT Said:

Voted for PSU but went as IU…Funny though because PSU was winning the poll late 85% to 15%, but somehow these terrible IU helmets end up in the finals?

Teddy Football on 6/2/2013 @ 1:12pm EDT Said:

BTN Staff, you link to a Michigan blog/forum in which they clearly lay out that they voted against PSU so UM would win. Its a garbage poll.

Brent Yarina, on 6/2/2013 @ 3:34pm EDT Said:

Teddy – With any poll like this, one where it’s attracting fans from all 12 schools and pitting schools against one another, there’s almost always going to be examples of this. We’re not saying these polls are scientific in any way; instead, we want to give Big Ten fans something fun to do and an outlet to let their voice be heard. Hope you understand.

Jason on 6/2/2013 @ 1:50pm EDT Said:

UM and OSU fans apparently need jobs.

Jason on 6/2/2013 @ 3:05pm EDT Said:

By the way this Brent Yarina guy talks about Michigan, it sounds like he wants them to win

Hoosier on 6/3/2013 @ 3:37pm EDT Said:

Can we update the poll now that Indiana has new helmets?

Patrick Doyle on 8/21/2013 @ 1:54pm EDT Said:

How did Indiana even get to this point? Admittedly, the Big 10 has a dearth of imaginative helmet designs – P for Purdue, W for Wisconsin, M for Minnesota, N for Nebraska, “ILLINOIS” for Illinois, nothing at all for OSU and PSU, the only thing IU did was to put 2 letters on their helmets. At least the Spartans and Hawkeyes have a little bit of flair!

    ChrisK on 8/21/2013 @ 4:31pm EDT Said:

probably because the y put the “U” with the “I” about 150 years ago-that’s a classic logo that carries tradition & meaning of the institution. Now if it were just an “I”-like Illinois has, it could mean anything. “Incomplete”, “irrelevant”, “Imbecile”, but the I & U together are unmistakably Indiana University.
