Jermaine Marshall scored 25 points and Penn State upset No. 4 Michigan 84-78 on Wednesday night for its first Big Ten win of the season. The Nittany Lions (9-18, 1-14) had lost 18 straight regular-season conference games dating to last season, but they roared back from a 15-point deficit with 10:39 left behind the energetic play of Marshall.

The junior guard scored 19 in the second half, including four 3s that whipped Jordan Center fans into a frenzy.

D.J. Newbill added 17 points for Penn State, which hit a season-high 10 3-pointers.

FINAL: Ross Travis scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Jermaine Marshall added 25 points and six boards to lead Penn State to an 84-78 upset victory over No. 4 Michigan on Wednesday at the Bryce Jordan Center. The game was a shootout, as both teams were hot from the field. Penn State (9-18) shot 47 percent (27-of-57) and Michigan (23-5) shot 52 percent (30-of-58). The Nittany Lions were hot from long range, hitting 10-of-20 threes for a 50 percent night from beyond the arc. Penn State also went 20-of-27 from the charity stripe as a team (74 percent). Brandon Taylor had a quality shooting game, nailing 3-of-5 shots from the field and scoring seven points. Penn State also got a solid contribution from D.J. Newbill (17 points).

HALFTIME: Nik Stauskas has nine points on 4-of-6 shooting to lead No. 4 Michigan to a 39-36 lead over Penn State at the end of the first half. The Nittany Lions made it rain from long range, shooting 50 percent (5-of-10) from three-point land, and were led by Ross Travis' seven points, five rebounds and three assists. Penn State put the clamps on Michigan's three-point game (2-of-9, 22 percent from long range), while the Wolverines shot 68 percent in the first half on two-point field goals. Seven Michigan players scored in the first half.
