Doug McDermott scored 27 points, Gregory Echenique had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 13 Creighton pulled away in the second half for a 64-42 victory over Nebraska in the annual meeting of the state rivals Thursday night. Creighton (8-1) won in Lincoln for the first time since 2004.

FINAL: Doug McDermott scored 27 points and grabbed four rebounds and Gregory Echenique added 12 points and 11 boards as they teamed up to lead No. 13 Creighton to a 64-42 victory over Nebraska on Thursday at Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.

Creighton (8-1) held Nebraska (6-2) to 33 percent shooting from the field and grabbed 23 defensive rebounds, while only allowing seven offensive rebounds.

McDermott helped spark the Bluejays, with 10-of-19 shooting from the field. Creighton shot 8-of-17 from three-point range during the game, good for 47 percent. The Bluejays shared the ball to the tune of 16 assists on 23 baskets. Brandon Ubel scored 10 points and hauled in eight rebounds for the Cornhuskers in a losing effort. Nebraska also got a double-digit game from Dylan Talley, who scored 14.

Free throws played a key role in the outcome, as Creighton not only went to the line 12 more times than the Cornhuskers, but made the most of its opportunities, shooting 10-of-18. Nebraska committed 16 fouls and shot 2-of-6 from the line.

HALFTIME: No. 13 Creighton clamped down defensively to hold the Cornhuskers to 28 percent shooting in the first half and has a 28-17 lead at halftime.

The Bluejays shared the ball, finishing with eight assists on 10 field goals in the first half. Andre Almeida led the way for Nebraska in the first half, with two points and five rebounds. Creighton's Gregory Echenique had a big first half, with six points and seven rebounds.
