Melsahn Basabe scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half as Iowa throttled Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 88-59 on Saturday. Devyn Marble added 15 points for the Hawkeyes (6-2), who never trailed and used a 20-0 run in the first half to bounce back from two straight losses.

FINAL:  Iowa used its efficient offense to power past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 88-59 on Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Iowa (6-2) shot 57 percent from the field (29-of-51). The Hawkeyes were hot from long range, hitting 8-of-19 threes for a 42 percent night from beyond the arc. Iowa went 22-of-29 from the charity stripe as a team (76 percent).

Melsahn Basabe boosted the Hawkeyes, with 17 points and 5-of-6 shooting from the field.

After going into the break with momentum, Iowa kept its foot on the gas to start the second half. The Hawkeyes were winning 35-18 late in the first before they went on an 18-5 run to extend their lead to 30 points with 18:07 in the game.

Roy Devyn Marble shot 5-of-7 from the field and scored 15 points for Iowa. The Hawkeyes also got double-digit games from Josh Oglesby, who scored 12 and Adam Woodbury, who scored 13.

Joy Williamson had 14 points for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (1-5) in a losing effort. The Islanders also got double-digit contributions from Zane Knowles, who scored 12 and Johnathan Jordan and Hameed Ali, who each scored 13.

Iowa never trailed in the game. The Hawkeyes' largest lead was 39, which came midway through the second half. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has now lost five games in a row.

HALFTIME: Melsahn Basabe scored 15 points for Iowa in the first half to carry the Hawkeyes to a 44-23 lead over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Basabe and Adam Woodbury are leading the way for Iowa. Basabe shot 4-of-4 from the field. Woodbury scored 11 points and shot 4-of-4 from the field.

An aggressive offense and the ability to get to the charity stripe allowed the Hawkeyes to take a halftime lead. Through 20 minutes of play, Iowa is 16-for-22 from the free throw line.

The Hawkeyes led from the start and led by as many as 25 points.

Iowa was leading 11-7 when it used a 20-0 spurt to widen its advantage to a 24-point margin.

The Hawkeyes have been effective inside, making 11-of-16 two-point field goals, but Iowa has struggled on the perimeter, shooting 2-for-7 from three-point range. Iowa got points from eight different players.

The Hawkeyes were able to put the clamps on the Islanders' leading scorer, William Nelson. The junior enters halftime with one point, well below his season average of 15.6.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Hameed Ali already has 11 points.
