The freshmen are the future, right? With that, it’s time to unveil BTN.com’s 2012 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

There were many deserving players. It was difficult to leave guys like Northwestern superback Dan Vitale, Illinois linebacker Mike Svetina, Nebraska running back Imani Cross and Indiana guard Dan Feeney, along with Purdue guard Robert Kugler, Penn State tight end Jesse James, Michigan State fullback Lawrence Thomas, Indiana quarterback Nate Sudfeld, Iowa defensive tackle Darian Cooper, Indiana running back Tevin Coleman and Purdue receiver Dolapo Mcarthy.

Why did you overlook Imani Cross? Is it lack of time on the field? In the absence of Burkhead’s ability to literally pile on 8-9 guys trying to tackle him and still move the ball 7 or 8 yards further, Cross did a great job of filling the vital role to punch the ball through the line. If it is lack of time on field, I can understand that. But if you are looking for impact when it matters, I don’t think he is a freshman that can be ignored. I’m not trying to be argumentative, but rather I am genuinely curious as to why he didn’t make your list.

Funchess averaged about 1 catch per game during big ten play, you’re telling me nobody else did better?

@ Doug – You seem to have overlooked the fact that Funchess hauled in 5 TD’s among his 14 receptions. 5 TD’s is tied for the league lead for the TE position. I’d say Tom knows what he was doing.
