Junior Ben Brust had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 23 Wisconsin scored the first 19 points in an 87-47 rout of Southeastern Louisiana in a season opener Sunday.

Jared Berggren led the Badgers with 19 points and fellow senior Mike Bruesewitz added 10 in a 13-minute appearance. Bruesewitz cut his lower right leg during practice Oct. 9 and returned Friday.

Redshirt freshman George Marshall, starting at point guard for Wisconsin with junior Josh Gasser out for the season because of a torn knee, hit a 3-pointer 13 seconds into the game to set the tone.

FINAL: Ben Brust scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Jared Berggren added 19 points and eight boards as No. 21 Wisconsin drilled Southeastern Louisiana, 87-47, on Sunday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Wisconsin (1-0) hit 52 percent of its field goals (32-of-61). The Badgers were on fire from beyond the arc during the game, shooting 38 percent (8-of-21). Wisconsin crashed the offensive glass effectively, grabbing 17 offensive boards.

The Badgers held Southeastern Louisiana (0-1) to 35 percent shooting from the field and grabbed 29 defensive rebounds, while only allowing three offensive rebounds.

The Badgers' Brust had three assists and 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Wisconsin also got a double-digit performance from Mike Bruesewitz, who scored 10.

Winning the rebounding battle was a key to victory for the Badgers as they outrebounded the Lions 46-17. Wisconsin never trailed in the game. The Badgers' largest lead was 41, which came with 1:12 to go. Not only did Wisconsin go to the line 17 more times than did Southeastern Louisiana, it made the most of its opportunities, converting 15-of-23. The Lions committed 20 fouls and shot 4-of-6 from the line.

1ST HALF RECAP: Ben Brust scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Jared Berggren chipped in six points and pulled down six rebounds to lead No. 21 Wisconsin to 43-17 halftime lead over Southeastern Louisiana at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers made it rain from long range, shooting 50 percent (6-of-12) from three-point land. Wisconsin applied the pressure in the first half, earning second-chance opportunities with seven offensive rebounds, to just zero for the Lions. Wisconsin got points from seven different players.

Wisconsin, which led by as many as 28 points in the opening 20 minutes, limited the Lions to 24 percent from the field and kept them scoreless for a span of 7:15 of game time. It also put the clamps on Brandon Fortenberry, who scored just two points.
