Northwestern scored 10 points in the quarter, and the Wildcats now lead 24-21. Northwestern finished with 71 yards through the air and 74 on the ground in the quarter. Kain Colter threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Dan Vitale to break the 14-14 standstill in favor of the Wildcats. The play put the finishing touches on a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive.

Northwestern expanded its lead to 24-14 thanks to a 12-play, 53-yard drive that ended when Jeff Budzien drilled a 34-yard field goal.

Michigan made the score 24-21 after Devin Gardner and Fitzgerald Toussaint combined for a 28-yard touchdown to finish off a 78-yard drive. The Wolverines used Gardner's 42-yard pass to Jeremy Gallon to fuel the drive.

The Wildcats will start the fourth quarter with possession on their own 38-yard line.
