'Elite' profiles 1995 Wildcats football team
Tonight’s episode of “Big Ten Elite” at 8 p.m. ET (and again at 10 p.m.) profiles of one of the greatest rags-to-riches stories in recent college football history. When Gary Barnett arrived on campus and announced that Northwestern fans and players should “expect victory,” few thought he could live up to that proclamation. But in 1995 the Northwestern Wildcats authored a season for the ages.
Beginning with a season-opening upset of Notre Dame in South Bend, the Wildcats continued to surprise week after week to finish the Big Ten season undefeated and earn their first trip to Pasadena since 1949. The show features interviews with Gary Barnett, Darnell Autry, D’Wayne Bates, Brian Musso, Northwestern graduate and “Saturday Night Live” member Seth Meyers, BTN’s Chris Martin and current Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald.
That season featured a number of memorable games for Wildcats fans, including this one against Wisconsin. The whole game is at BTN2Go and a clip of it is below.
Later that season, Northwestern faced Iowa. See a portion of that game below and watch the whole thing at BTN2Go.
