Brendan Gibbons made a 38-yard field goal with 5 seconds left, lifting No. 23 Michigan to a 12-10 win over Michigan State on Saturday. The Wolverines (5-2, 3-0 Big Ten) beat the Spartans (4-4, 1-3) .for the first time since 2007, avoiding a school-record, five-game losing streak in the series.

Denard Robinson threw a 20-yard pass to Drew Dileo to set up the game-winning kick.

Michigan State's Dan Conroy made a go-ahead field goal with 5:48 left after a fake punt kept the drive alive. The Spartans forced the Wolverines to punt from midfield after going ahead, but couldn't stop them when it mattered most in the final minute.

It was the 900th win for Michigan, college football's winningest program.

FINAL: Michigan and Michigan State traded the lead all game long, but the Wolverines went ahead for good in the fourth quarter on Brendan Gibbons' 38-yard field goal and held on for a 12-10 victory over the Spartans on Saturday at Michigan Stadium.

Michigan's explosive offense used big plays to take down Michigan State. The Wolverines had six plays of 20 yards or more on their way to victory. Michigan added to the highlight reel when Denard Robinson scrambled 44 yards with 5:41 remaining in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, the big play went to waste, as that drive ended on the Michigan State 43-yard line without a score.

The Spartans' offense was firing on all cylinders, but just couldn't put enough points on the board for the win. Michigan was burned for 304 total yards, but its defense stiffened up when it mattered the most.

The offenses for both the Wolverines and Michigan State struggled throughout the game. The teams combined for only 630 total yards.

Michigan's Robinson passed for 163 yards, completing 14 of 29 throws. He threw one interception. Robinson was also a threat on the ground, as he rushed for 96 yards on 20 attempts.

The Wolverines finished with 326 total yards, including 163 yards passing while completing 14 of 30 attempts. Michigan also moved the ball on the ground, earning 163 yards on 32 attempts.

The Spartans' Andrew Maxwell was good for 192 yards during the game, completing 21 of 34 passes. Maxwell finished the game with one touchdown and one interception. Maxwell's favorite target on the day was Aaron Burbridge. He hauled in six catches for 51 yards.
