The opening week of the Big Ten slate included several stories, both on and off the football field. From Nebraska AD Tom Osborne's retirement, effective Jan. 1, 2013, to reaction to Nebraska's comeback victory over Wisconsin, see BTN.com's top 10 most-read stories of Week 5 in this post.

10. Dienhart: 5 things I learned from Week 5
The opening week of Big Ten play did not disappoint, as Ohio State and Nebraska each claimed late wins over Michigan State and Wisconsin, respectively, in two of the day?s biggest games. But what did I learn from the first week of Big Ten action.

9. Revsine's Numbers: It's time for Big Ten play
Conference play is here - and not a moment too soon. I don?t say that for the reasons you might think (though I?m certainly not complaining about not having to discuss which game this weekend is most important for the Big Ten?s national reputation).

8. Clothes Call: Watch the cleats under the lights Saturday
Not a fan of the adidas alternate uniforms Wisconsin and Nebraska will wear Saturday night? Perhaps you?ll like the footwear more. On Friday, adidas announced the Badgers and Huskers? black adiZero cleats will turn silver under the lights of Memorial Stadium.

7. Snap Reactions: Huskers have lots of resolve
As he does every Saturday during the college football season, BTN.com senior writer Tom Dienhart offers his Snap Reactions to every Big Ten game. Read his thoughts from Nebraska?s comeback win over Wisconsin in this post.

6. Did You See This? Memorial Stadium adds '#Huskers'
Add a Twitter hashtag to the growing list of new features we?ll see during Saturday?s highly anticipated Wisconsin-Nebraska Big Ten opener. That?s right, ?#Huskers? has been added to the field at Memorial Stadium. And the hashtag should get plenty of play on the social media site, what with the two teams wearing much-talked-about adidas alternate uniforms and special cleats.

5. Dienhart: Week 5 bowl projections
Four weeks are in the books, but the bowl picture remains a work-in-progress-as usual To review: The Big Ten has tie-ins with eight bowls-but it has only 10 bowl-eligible schools, as Penn State and Ohio State are on NCAA and banned from the postseason in 2012.

4. Osborne's steady hand guided Huskers' progress
Staid and stoic. I can?t think of two words that better describe Tom Osborne. He also was very good at whatever he did, and he did plenty. First as a football coach. Later, as an athletic director. Now, the 75-year-old Osborne is retiring effective Jan. 1, making the announcement today in Lincoln.

3. BTN releases men's hoops conference TV schedule
BTN will televise 67 men?s basketball conference matchups, including four Big Ten Men?s Basketball Tournament games and an additional number of non-conference games, the network announced Wednesday. Gus Johnson, one of America?s favorite sportscasters, returns to BTN for his fifth season.

2. Week 6 Power Rankings: Ohio State stays on top
Ohio State solidified its case for the top spot in my Week 6 Power Rankings, this after going into East Lansing at knocking off Michigan State. But what about the rest of my list?
