Northwestern scored 13 points in the quarter, and the Wildcats now lead 20-0. Northwestern threw for 119 yards and ran for 80 yards in the quarter. The Wildcats expanded their lead to 10-0 thanks to a 12-play, 61-yard drive that ended when Jeff Budzien kicked a 44-yard field goal.

Northwestern opened up the lead, 17-0, after Kain Colter scrambled for an eight-yard touchdown run to end a five-play, 73-yard drive. The Wildcats crossed midfield on Trevor Siemian's 25-yard pass to Rashad Lawrence from the 27-yard line.

Northwestern made its lead 20-0 when Budzien made a 34-yard field goal on the last play of a 12-play, 63-yard drive.

The Wildcats will have possession to start the second half.
