Iowa's offense scored 21 points thanks to four long plays and the Hawkeyes now lead 24-0. Iowa made its lead 10-0 when Mark Weisman turned a handoff into an eight-yard touchdown on the last play of a six-play, 84-yard drive. The key play on the Hawkeyes' drive was Weisman's 44-yard run. Iowa threw just one time on that drive.

The Hawkeyes added to their advantage when James Vandenberg found Jordan Cotton open for a 47-yard touchdown pass, the final play on a one-play, 47-yard drive to give Iowa the lead, 17-0. A fumble recovery by the Hawkeyes set Iowa up to start the drive.

The Hawkeyes opened up the lead, 24-0, after Vandenberg turned a quarterback sneak into a one-yard touchdown run to end a six-play, 52-yard drive.

Minnesota is set to receive to start the second half.
