Tevin King led Louisiana Tech in the quarter by rushing for 37 yards and one touchdown, and the Bulldogs lead 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. The last 21 points have been scored by Louisiana Tech.

Illinois took the game's first lead after Nathan Scheelhaase and Ryan Lankford combined for an 18-yard touchdown on the last play of a two-play, 18-yard drive. The Fighting Illini began the drive with good field position after Illinois recovered a fumble.

The Bulldogs tied the score at 7-7 after Colby Cameron found D.J. Banks open for a 27-yard touchdown pass to put a bow on an eight-play, 74-yard drive. Pass plays were an afterthought for Louisiana Tech, as the Bulldogs threw just one pass on that possession.

The Bulldogs used Cameron's 40-yard pass to Quinton Patton to fuel the drive. Louisiana Tech started in good field position when Solomon Randle intercepted a Scheelhaase pass.

The Bulldogs added to their advantage when Kenneth Dixon turned a handoff into a five-yard touchdown, the last of a three-play, 24-yard drive to give Louisiana Tech the lead, 21-7. The Bulldogs began the drive with good field position after Louisiana Tech recovered a fumble.

The Fighting Illini will start the second quarter with the ball on their own 38-yard line.
