Michigan State's defense held tough in the third quarter, holding Eastern Michigan to 31 total yards of offense, and the Spartans have taken the lead 9-7. Michigan State's front seven stepped up in the quarter, allowing the Eagles to gain just 17 rushing yards.

The Spartans closed the gap to 7-6 when Dan Conroy kicked a 44-yard field goal to cap off a 35-yard drive. Michigan State kept the ball on the ground during the drive, throwing only one pass.

Conroy's 35-yard field goal gave the Spartans the lead 9-7 after a seven-play, 38-yard drive.

Eastern Michigan will start the fourth quarter with possession at its own 39-yard line.
