Eastern Michigan's defense shut down Michigan State's aerial attack in the second quarter, holding the Spartans to 31 passing yards and the Eagles now lead 7-3. Michigan State scored when Dan Conroy kicked a 35-yard field goal to polish off a 12-play, 74-yard drive, giving the Spartans the game's first lead.

Tyler Benz's 23-yard touchdown pass to Donald Scott put Eastern Michigan on top 7-3, the clincher of a one-play, 23-yard drive. The Eagles started in good field position when Eastern Michigan recovered a fumble.

Le'Veon Bell clinched a 100-yard rushing game with 42 in the quarter, part of his 117-yard day through two quarters for Michigan State.

The Eagles will receive to start the second half.
