Who named Madison 'Best college football town?'

Since it’s an election year, it seems appropriate that USA Today declared a winner in its fan-powered contest to name “America’s Best College Town.” And the winner by popular vote is … Madison, Wis., home of the Wisconsin Badgers. The newspaper’s website reports that Madison edged out Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg, Va. Also, a late surge in voting made Columbus, Ohio, the contest’s third-place finisher. Something tells us not everyone will agree with this result.

Here’s the original USA Today survey in case you want to take issue with the decision. And here’s the story from USA Today declaring a winner. And, of course, here’s the USA Today photo gallery featuring their top finishers in the contest. Now excuse us while we once again watch BTN’s Jay Wilson take part in “Jump Around” at a Wisconsin football game in the video in this post.

do a more scientific study next time, not just a fan poll.

Good point for USA Today, Jerry, but then I don’t think they meant it to be anything more than a sort of fun and silly contest. We like it better when writers actually rate the places in town, eat the foods, and do a tour. That kind of stuff is fun, too.

I have heard it is a cool town, but every person that I have talked to that went to a football game as an opposing fan says that Wisconsin fans are terrible. Probably not the best idea to be jerks to people that are helping the local economy.

I can’t help but laugh at such nonsense.

I must agree i have heard from multiple people that they have very rude fans, just look at the game last week when the TV camera showed a back of a fans shirt that was in the stands that had a very vulgar phase. I can’t believe the university let him in the stadium

An idiot? Just kidding, from what I’ve read and heard from friends, Madison, Wisconsin truly deserves the nickname Madtown.
