Minnesota ran for 100 yards in the quarter, and the Golden Gophers lead 16-7 at the end of the first quarter. Minnesota stuffed Mike MacArthur in the endzone for a safety to make the score 2-0. The Golden Gophers expanded their lead to 9-0 thanks to a one-play, 27-yard drive that ended when MarQueis Gray found Isaac Fruechte open for a 27-yard touchdown pass.

A 76-yard drive that ended when Chris Setian ran five yards to paydirt helped No. 12 New Hampshire narrow the deficit to 9-7.

Minnesota added to its advantage when Gray scrambled for a 75-yard touchdown run, capping off a one-play, 75-yard drive to give the Golden Gophers the lead, 16-7.

The Wildcats will start the second quarter with possession at their own 29-yard line.
