No. 11 Michigan State held Central Michigan to 23 total yards during the first quarter and the Spartans lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Michigan State held the Chippewas to just 14 yards passing during the quarter.

The Spartans scored when Le'Veon Bell pounded in a one-yard touchdown run to put the finishing touches on a nine-play, 32-yard drive, giving Michigan State the game's first lead. The Spartans began the drive with good field position after Nick Hill returned a punt.

Michigan State is threatening to score to start the second quarter and have the ball at Central Michigan's seven-yard line.
