No. 2 Alabama put up 21 points in the first, and the Crimson Tide lead 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. Alabama executed a balanced offensive attack in the quarter, finishing with 79 yards passing and 73 yards rushing.

The Crimson Tide scored when AJ McCarron threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Michael Williams to cap a nine-play, 61-yard drive, giving Alabama the game's first lead. The Crimson Tide expanded their lead to 14-0 thanks to a three-play, 67-yard drive that ended when McCarron tossed a 51-yard touchdown to DeAndrew White.

Alabama opened up the lead, 21-0, after Eddie Lacy turned a handoff into a nine-yard touchdown to end a three-play, 17-yard drive. The Crimson Tide started in good field position when Dee Milliner intercepted a Denard Robinson pass.

No. 8 Michigan has possession on its own 38-yard line to start the second quarter.
