The latest in our entertaining and insightful series of Big Ten Olympic Journals is in and it?s from U.S. swim team co-captain and Michigan graduate Peter Vanderkaay, who writes about how the U.S. swimming team put together a dominant run.

Here's what Vanderkaay sent Monday afternoon:

Former Michigan swimmer Peter Vanderkaay is a member of the U.S. Olympic swim team. The three-time Olympian chronicles his journey here for BTN.com. Read all of our Olympic journals.

"So the swimming competition has finally come to a close and Team USA dominated the medal stand.  Matt Grevers won another gold on the 4×100 medley relay, and as well as Davis Tarwater picking up a gold from the 4×200 free relay. Connor Jaeger fought his way to an impressive sixth place in the 1500 free. Not bad for the youngest guy on the team, especially in such a deep field of competitors. Overall, it was an honor to be a part of such a successful squad.

"It's also important to note that in the last entry, the outfit Davis was wearing was self-described as his favorite outfit of all time. Don't be surprised if you ever see him rocking it in the States on a regular basis. He said the beret is, 'totally congruent with my swagger.'

"Since the competition is over, I've now moved out of the Olympic Village and into an apartment in the city. It will be fun to tour the sites, frequent some other events, and enjoy the festivities. Last night Davis and I caught the finals of the Men's 100 meter sprint finals and it certainly didn't disappoint. The pre-race antics were the highlight for me. We were only a stone's throw from watching Bolt celebrate his victory.

"Overall, my experience has been incredible and London is certainly putting on a memorable games. The crowd was enthusiastic throughout the entire competition, which definitely elevated our performances. I'm looking forward to the remaining days and closing ceremonies."

Editor's note: A veteran of the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, Vanderkaay has won two relay golds and a bronze in the 200 free. Find out more about him at PeterVanderkaay.com and visit his Facebook fan page.
