Michigan didn’t get contacted either. But then, Michigan doesn’t have a mascot. David Brandon, M’s athletic director started considering adopting one after he saw all the kids in Ann Arbor lining up to get a picture with Bucky Badger.

Bo Schembechler had a Wolverine mount in his office. He said it looked like a “big skunk.” When those within ear shot looked at him in aghast, he amended it by saying, “But, a really mean skunk!”

So here’s a message to David: Start with a really mean skunk and improve on the image.

For what it’s worth, it’s now coming to light that Northwestern never got its invitation either.

Today the Purdue Exponent posted more information confirming that one of the current Petes would have been in it if the organizers would have contacted the right people.

The blurb above the video still says that Purdue “declined to participate” which sure seems to be untrue. Can’t that be corrected? As a donor to Purdue Pete, it is very frustrating to hear/read other fans’ comments complaining about Purdue and Pete declining to be part of this when it’s not true, and this page is where people are getting that information.

So now the story is updated to show that the MSU people contacted a FORMER Purdue Pete and by the time the word was passed to a current one, the filming and editing was done. Why not contact the person at Purdue who is in charge of Pete, whose contact information is easily available on Purdue’s own web site?

Please correct the description of the video to reflect that Purdue did NOT decline to participate and that the wrong people were contacted, and that Purdue Pete would have been in the video if the right people at Purdue were contacted! It was not Purdue’s fault that Pete was not in it!

According to the Journal and Courier and Purdue Athletics, the people in charge of Purdue Pete were never contacted about this–or else Pete would have been part of it. Who did the organizers contact?
