No. 6 Ohio State plated nine runs in the final two innings to defeat No. 3 Penn State, 12-5, on the opening day of the Big Ten tournament Wednesday at Huntington Park. The Buckeyes, who move to 32-25 on the season, take on top-seeded and 18th-ranked Purdue at 7:05 p.m. ET Thursday. David Corna and Patrick Porter both drove in four runs, while Corna and Brad Holberg each had three hits. Brett McKinney threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the victory. Despite having a 5-1 lead, Penn State baseball (29-26) gave up 11-straight runs to drop its Big Ten Tournament opener to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Penn State will play in an elimination game with the Nebraska Cornhuskers tomorrow at noon. Senior first baseman Jordan Steranka (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded three hits and hit two doubles to tie the school record for two-baggers.
