Take your pick from Illinois for defensive players. DE Michael Buchanan, LB Jonathan Brown and DB Terry Hawthorne will all be studs. The Illini usually get overlooked for awards (Mercilus should have gotten Def. POY over Still by a landslide), but the fact is Illinois had a top-10 defense last year. Buchanan had a big year last year that was overshadowed by Mercilus and he should put up bigger numbers this year with Mercilus gone. Brown should have been first team All-Big Ten last year after leading league in TFLs and ranking second in tackles in conf. games. Hawthorne, if he can stay healthy, will be a shutdown corner and also double as WR.
