After losing the first two games of the weekend series by one run, the Iowa baseball team posted a thrilling 5-4 one-run win in 12 innings over Minnesota Sunday in the Metrodome to avoid the series sweep. MICHIGAN STATE 5, PURDUE 0 
Sophomore right-hander David Garner threw a complete game shutout and struck out seven to lead Michigan State past No. 13 Purdue, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Lambert Field. Garner limited Purdue – which entered the week ranked third in the nation in batting average and 15th in scoring – to just five hits as the Boilermakers (34-7, 14-4 Big Ten) were shut out for the first time this season. PENN STATE 8, OHIO STATE 7
Penn State senior Sean Deegan was due, and did he ever deliver. With two outs in the bottom of the 10th , runners on second and third and the Nittany Lions trailing by two runs, Deegan hammered a towering shot over the right centerfield wall to give Penn State an 8-7 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes. INDIANA 11, MICHIGAN 8; INDIANA 11, MICHIGAN 5
Indiana coach Tracy Smith earned his 500th and 501st career coaching victories on Sunday as his Hoosiers (22-23, 9-6 Big Ten) swept the doubleheader and series at Michigan (17-27, 4-11). Indiana scored 22 runs on 26 hits in the double dip. Read full recap at IUHoosiers.com.

ILLINOIS 3, NORTHWESTERN 2
Illinois led 5-0 after six innings but had to hold on for a 5-4 victory over Northwestern at Rocky Miller Park on Saturday, winning the weekend series over the Wildcats for the Illini's second-straight Big Ten series victory. Starting pitcher John Kravetz earned his seventh victory, breaking the school record for wins by a freshman, and Ronnie Muck tossed three scoreless innings of relief to record his third save.
